Picture this: you’re sippin’ margs on the beach, enjoying the vacation your business supported, and you’re not checking a single DM. That’s time-freedom.
Or, maybe you’re going to the dentist on a Wednesday morning, and you’re not stressing about missing an email or how you’re going to afford the bill. That’s time-freedom, too.
Everyone loves to talk about having time-freedom and doing what you want, but what does that actually mean? Sure, sipping a margarita on a beach is a cool achievement, but that’s not everything “time-freedom” is.
What is Time-Freedom (And Why is it so Desirable)?
Time-freedom is having more autonomy with your time. You have less time-sensitive demands in your work life that could impede and control your, well, life. You’re able to prioritize your life and do the things you want and need to do without worrying about your work schedule.
It’s also not something that looks the same for everyone—living my best life with plenty of time freedom will likely look different from yours.
For me, that’s comfortably renovating my steal of a deal new home, hiking, kayaking, and attending a graduate program—but for you, maybe that’s going for a brunch twice a week with your friends, signing up for aerial yoga classes, or unlimited visits to the chiropractor.
Time-freedom is having freedom in your choice of where to spend your time.
Time-Freedom and Entrepreneurship: Best Friends or Worst Enemies?
For entrepreneurs, time-freedom is the goal. Whether you’ve been calling it “time-freedom” or listing everything you dream of doing, it’s probably still “time-freedom” you’re searching for.
But, while time-freedom is the goal of most entrepreneurs, it’s a fine line to walk. Focusing too much on achieving time-freedom vs. how you’re achieving time-freedom can make your win short-lived. Your business can’t exist without you in SOME capacity—regardless of what some coaches say about ‘passive income.’
On the other hand, if you neglect building in a little time-freedom into your business, you’ll quickly become burnt out and overwhelmed by the sheer amount of work you’re doing—and how it’s taking up a majority of your days.
It’s something you have to balance and work towards. Everything you do, the steps you take, the systems you build, and the offers you launch all impact how much time-freedom you have in your business.
How to Get More Time-Freedom in Your Life and Business
Like I mentioned before, time-freedom takes time. It’s intentional, and you have to build a business that supports it. One of the best ways for service providers and coaches to get more time-freedom is to diversify their offer suite and expand beyond 1:1 services.
But it’s also being realistic in what you need and want from your business, the clients you can take on, and how you can provide the transformation your clients need.
